Location: Blair Drummond
Type of vacancy: Live in/short term co-worker
We are currently welcoming new volunteers (age 18-25) from both overseas and the UK to apply to join our team of 35 International volunteers in their Castle home.
Camphill Blair Drummond community centres around a Castle surrounded by 5 acres of beautiful gardens, set within a large country estate and overlooking Blair Drummond Safari Park. From the community, you can walk, cycle or run out on to tracks that take you down to the River Teith with views across to the 14th century Doune Castle or wander further on to the local village of Doune.
A 15 minute bus ride will take you to the medieval city and castle of Stirling, once the capital of Scotland. From there both Glasgow and Edinburgh are just 45/50 minutes away by train.
Nearby is Callander, a tourist town which lies within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, an internationally renowned landscape. Here you can stroll along the river, spend the afternoon in one of the many cafes or explore the miles of tracks and trails on foot or by bike that wind around the many lochs and mountains in the Park.
As a volunteer you will be allocated to one of the 7 Houses in the grounds of the estate here at Camphill Blair Drummond. Each House is the home of 7 residents. Over the year you will become part of the family of that House. You will help provide personal support and friendship to the residents throughout their day. Meals are taken together within the family home and everybody participates in household activities depending on their ability. During the evenings there are usually social and recreational activities to be involved with.
Monday to Friday you will join with our residents in a range of activities including bread-baking in the commercial bakery, estate management, growing fruit and vegetables, singing, walking, cycling and a range of creative activities including woodwork, photography, glass-making and IT.
The weekends are more relaxed. You’ll be involved in a number of different activities depending on what the residents in your house want to do. We get involved in a lot of social and leisure activities across Central Scotland, but there’s a lot to do locally and, when the weather is good, walking, cycling or just hanging out in the beautiful grounds with a barbeque or picnic is hard to improve on.
Placements typically run for 9-12 months. Accommodation in a single or twin room in the Castle, food and a subsistence allowance are all provided.
Places available from August 2021 onwards.
