Robin Jackson’s report Reforming Social Care: Time for Radical Change, published by the Centre for Welfare Reform, once again gives us lots to think about. The report provides a wide ranging and trenchant critique of social care policy and practice in England. There is a very positive vision too alongside the critical analysis. In Chapter Five, for instance, Robin writes about the promise and the challenges facing the ecovillage to support healthy human development. In order to be sustainable there must be significant economic activity in the ecovillage whilst at the same time, the work must (p.35)
not depend on exploitation of other people and places, nor on exploitation of the future by the present.
Definitely worth a read.
