Simeon’s Raise the Roof Appeal

Type: News
Topic: Camphill | Intentional communities
Community: Simeon Care for the Elderly
Published on: 25th May 2018

International volunteers ‘life share’

Simeon hosts up to nine international volunteers who live and work in the Simeon care home, usually staying for a year.  The Simeon ethos of community and care is richly supported by our volunteers who live on site, and alongside those receiving care.  In Camphill this is often called ‘life sharing’.    Over the years they have provided hundreds of hours of service to the community and left a rich legacy of kindness and care.  Some volunteers have gone on to become permanent members of the team, while many others have returned home and shared what they have learned in their personal and professional lives.  It is a mutually enriching experience for young and old alike.

Permanent volunteer accommodation needed

Simeon has four volunteer bedrooms in Simeon House, and the temporary use of 5 bedrooms nearby.  They now have the opportunity to redevelop a house on the Simeon site to provide comfortable and affordable accommodation for the temporarily housed 5 volunteers.  The new house would have 5 bedrooms, a kitchen and dining/lounge where volunteers can relax and get to know each other.

The renovation and loft conversion will cost £100,000. Simeon has already secured donations of £32,500 towards this project – an incredible £10,000 donation from a family member of a former resident, £2,500 from Newton Dee, and £20,000 from the Camphill Foundation.

Will you support Simeon to Raise the Roof?

Keith Nunn, Simeon’s General Manager said

We are very heartened by this generous support, and are reaching out to family, friends, former volunteers, and supporters for donations to help us to ‘Raise the Roof’ and create a new home for our wonderful volunteers.

Every penny counts and we would be grateful for any donation, however big or small.

How to support this project

Simeon would not be the same without their warm hearted, devoted, lively, and hard-working volunteers.  If you would like to help Simeon to make a new home for them, and ensure the continuation of their very successful international volunteer programme you can:

  • Contact Keith Nunn on 01224 862415 or manager@simeoncare.org.uk for more information or to discuss fund-raising ideas
