The Scottish Parliament’s Social Security Committee has published amendments to the Social Security Bill developed by Camphill Scotland, Inclusion Scotland, the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance and other partners. Camphill Scotland and partners are seeking cross-party support for these amendments from the Scottish Government and from the opposition parties.
The amendments would
- introduce a right to independent advocacy for those requiring assistance under the legislation
- place the proposed Scottish Social Security agency on a statutory footing
- ensure that the Scottish Ministers comply with the Scottish Social Security principles
- establish a social security advisory committee to provide the Scottish Ministers with independent advice on social security issues
- introduce a feedback mechanism for those applying for assistance under the legislation
