Camphill communities have a rich and varied cultural life. We get together to make music, perform plays and celebrate a range of festivals including Easter and Christmas. Celebrating festivals helps us to mark the passing of the year, and creates a rhythm and stability in our lives.
We are never bored, there is always something to do
quoted in Care Inspsectorate report, Beannachar March 2020
We help people to express themselves creatively, through weaving, crafts, woodwork, candle making, drama and music. These activities are fun, but also help people to develop new skills and confidence. Doing these activities together helps us to get to know each other.
There are celebrations, of birthdays and festivals. Art and music form a big part of daily life. Residents’ artwork decorates the walls and is encouraged. Participation in social and cultural life is seen as important. But people are encouraged to follow their own interests too, with time for peace and space.
Care Inspectorate, Tiphereth 2018
By the time she left [the school], she had grown into a young woman, with a strong sense of herself and her place in the world. There was a magnificent Graduation Ceremony – ceremonies are something that Camphill places do brilliantly – which Jenny enjoyed hugely.
