We commissioned an independent research company (Why Research) to discover more about what parents and carers, local authorities and third sector organisations think about Camphill. We asked the researchers to focus on those with most influence over whether people are able to come to Camphill or not: the local authority and parents and carers.
Impressive response to survey
We had an impressive response, with 226 people responding to an online survey and 20 people interviewed. We are very grateful to the 111 parents, carers and family members who completed the survey and the 5 who were interviewed. We are equally grateful to the local authority and third sector workers who took the time to help us in this way, including the 10 local authority and 5 third sector professionals who participated in the interviews.
Community Values & Personal Growth recognised
It was a resoundingly positive evaluation. In particular we are proud of the way our community values are recognised as such a positive part of living and work in Camphill, as this quote demonstrates:
the values base and ethos upon which the Camphill communities are based, in that they value the individual and the contribution they can make to the community, they are inclusive in their approach, they respect the individual and help to create a sense of self-worth…
We have always believed that when people feel safe, valued and part of a community they can really give the best of themselves. Camphill offers everyone, regardless of ability and disability, the chance to develop their individual talents and experience the pleasure and satisfaction of giving to others.
We also note that Camphill is strongly recognised as offering something unique and valuable. We believe that this uniqueness lies behind the continuing success of Camphill in Scotland with our expanding provision and the demands for more places.
