Milltown Community
A walk in the areaMilltown Community aims to create and maintain a home and working environment for a group of adults with special needs.

As part of a small village in an agricultural area, Milltown residents take an active part in local cultural events and are often joined by neighbours and friends for festivals in the community. Residents enjoy a large garden and the use of an arts and crafts room.

In Milltown, people from the area join the residents for the Day Workshop. The different activities include refurbishing tools for ‘Tools for Self-Reliance’, therapeutic craftwork, vegetable gardening and jobs on the smallholding. An endeavour is made to find the right job for the right person. Everyone has gifts and abilities to be recognised, encouraged and appreciated.

The wood workshopThe resident community lives in one large household as an extended family, finding a balance between sharing and supporting individual needs. There are six permanent residents and one space for respite together with four co-workers and family. The Day Workshop can take up to ten day attendees with three employed co-workers.

There are very good connections with local people. These links are important for a small community which partially depends on the local community for its social and cultural needs.
